Kid Inventions Take on the CoronaVirus!

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Mr. Rogers

That is exactly what many kids from around the world have done in recent months to help stop the coronavirus. From apps to barriers to masks and beyond, kid inventions are making a difference fighting the coronavirus in their local communities and beyond.  Check out some of the amazing inventions created by boys and girls from all parts of the globe!

Mizan Rupan-Tompkins, 13-Year-Old Inventor of the Safe Touch Pro Handle – San Francisco, USA

Mizan noticed his parents using their sleeves to protect themselves from germs while touching objects and opening doors.  Hey thought that there had to be a better way!  So, he put on his invention cap and began work on a solution to the problem.  After many attempts, he invented the  Safe Touch Pro Handle™.  It is made by 3D printers in his house and allows people to safely “touch” doors, elevators, ATMs, etc.

Avi Schiffman 17 Year Old Inventor of Coronavirus Tracker – Mercer Island, Washington, USA

Avi Schiffmann built one of the biggest websites for worldwide information on the spread of the novel coronavirus, ncov.live. Hundreds of MILLIONS of people have visited his website!  Avi began teaching himself how to code when he was seven years old, mostly by watching YouTube videos!

 

Neha Shukla, 15 Year Old Inventor of Wearable Social Distancing Device – Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA

Neha was concerned about her grandparents getting the virus and wanted to make sure they were safe.  So, she created SixFeetApart, a wearable sensor that alerts people if they come within 6 feet of each other.  She did this with the help of Girls with Impact, an online, entrepreneurship training academy.

Stephen Wamukota, 9 Year Old Kenyan Hand Washing Machine Inventor – Western Kenya

Stephen invented a way for his community to wash their hands without spreading germs.  He gathered wood, nails and a small water tank to create a hand washing machine use in local villages.

Frankie DeMunda, 12 Year Old Inventor of Personal Plexiglass Shield – Danbury, CT USA

Frankie created a device using plexiglass to protect people from the spread of the coronavirus.  He attached plexiglass to a walker and created space for people to store items, such as a laptop and notebook. This allows people to move around without spreading germs.

Matthew Valerio, 11 Year Old Inventor of Mask/Shirt – Rancho Cordova, California, USA

Matthew Valerio created a device connecting a mask and shirt together to help prevent the spread of the virus and get kids back to school!

Ezedine Kamil, 18 Year Old Creator of 30 COVID Inventions – Welkite, Ethiopia

Student Ezedine Kamil has developed 30 separate COVID-19 related inventions! His products include ventilators, devices that stop people from touching their face and an electric soap dispenser.  Here is an article, courtesy of DW, that describes all of his amazing inventions!

Andrew Tran and Rayan Yu, Inventors of AmeliaX AI Learning Assistant – Virginia, USA

Andrew and Rayan, two high school students from Virginia created AmeliaX, a learning assistant to help students understand and answer questions about their schoolwork while learning from home.  Here is an article that discusses their invention!
