A Brilliant Idea – A Special Soccer Ball That Provides Energy to Developing Countries

The idea for sOccket came from four inspiring young women at Harvard. In the developing world, energy is often not available. And what is available often comes from dangerous sources like kerosene lamps. Often, school kids resort to studying near kerosene lamps, fires, or even street lamps. They often come to school with soot on their noses from using such methods for light.
At the same time, kids play lots of soccer in the developing world. So the four students at Harvard had a brilliant idea – they would capture and store the energy produced by the soccer ball’s movement. Then they would use it to provide energy in places where it does not exist.
This video tells the story of the women’s remarkable vision and progress with sOccket.
