Neha Gupta – A Family Tradition Brings Hope to Orphans in India

When Neha Gupta was a little girl, her family taught her about family traditions. One of them was to visit India a few times a year to volunteer in an orphanage there.  So early on, Neha saw firsthand the poor conditions these orphans lived in.  By the time she was 9, Neha realized that she could help the orphans! So she began to raise money for them. She sold handmade items and requested donations to meet the orphans’ needs.

To raise more money, Neha started Empower Orphans. Today, Empower Orphans has raised thousands of dollars and done amazing things for the orphans.  It has created new resource centers, run health clinics, sponsored kids’ educations, and provided much-needed items for the orphans.  And it all began because one girl wanted to and help her fellow kids halfway around the world! This video tells about Neha and her efforts to help orphans.

Additional Resources:

Topics for Discussion:

  • What would it be like to be an orphan?
  • Neha says that feeling good about helping is the greatest reward of all.  Have you ever felt that way after doing a good work?
  • One of Neha’s goals is to “translate empathy into action”.  How can you do this in your own community?

Take Action:

  • Visit an orphanage in your area and brighten the day of the kids living there!
  • Check out the Orphanage Outreach website for big ways to help orphans around the world!
