Life Lessons and Quotes for Kids from Disney Characters!
By Erin DeGroff
You probably think of Disney characters and movies as a lot of fun and, often, amazing. But did you ever think that each movie offers great life lessons about things like patience, perseverance, kindness and tolerance? Well, it’s true.
To prove it, we have compiled a list of great quotes for kids from famous Disney characters:
There is nothing wrong with laughing at yourself when you make a mistake. It can help you feel more relieved and less upset. The next time you make a mistake, don’t freak out, just do what Mickey Mouse does:
- “To laugh at yourself is to love yourself.” –Mickey Mouse
We all have experienced hard things in our life. Pain is never fun. Sometimes it comes from things we have to go through that we can’t change, and sometimes it happens because of decisions we make. It is always better to learn from our past than to run from it. Rafiki, the wise baboon in The Lion King, gives this advice:
- “Oh yes, the past can hurt…but you either run from it, OR learn from it.” –Rafiki, The Lion King
Sometimes, there are going to be situations that seem to get you down. Everyone experiences it. What is most important is that you keep going when things are tough, or when you might want to give up. Here is what Dory says:
- “When life gets you down, want to know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” –Dory, Finding Nemo
There will always be someone who want’s to put limits on your life. They would be very happy to tell you that you couldn’t do something simply because of where you come from. You are the only one who will decide your limits.
- “You must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul.” –Gusteau, Ratatouille
Everyone experiences adversity. Adversity is the trouble that you might face throughout your life. It is important that you don’t allow yourself to become upset by adversity. It is a time for growth, and shaping who you are.
- “The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.” –The Emperor, Mulan
The phrase, “Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes,” means to try to see things from someone else’s point of view. It means trying to feel what they feel, and understand the struggles they face. This is what is known as empathy and having more of it would reduce things like bullying, war and prejudice. In other words, the world would be a better place. Like Pocahontas says:
- “You think the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you’ll learn things you never knew you never knew.” –Pocahontas
Almost everyone has a dream. The one thing to remember about those dreams, it usually takes hard work and perseverance to reach them. Don’t give up! When things seem impossible, remember that NOTHING is impossible when you work hard. It’s like Hercules says:
- “I am on my way, I can go the distance! I don’t care how far, somehow I’ll be strong. I know every mile will be worth my while.” –Hercules
If you’re going to achieve your goals, remember…everything takes time! A little patience, goes a long way.
- “Even miracles take a little time.” –Fairy Godmother, Cinderella
Have you ever noticed that people put value on things because of what they look like on the outside? Sometimes, we might decide not to read a book because we don’t like the cover, or not to buy a toy because we don’t like the box it comes in. Even though what is on the inside might be something amazing, we pass it by because the outside wasn’t what we were looking for. Many times, we judge people this way too. This is unfortunate because we could be missing out on a great friendship. Here’s what the movie Aladdin says about this:
- “Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what’s one the outside, but on the inside that counts.” –Street Vendor, Aladdin
